Recently while doing genealogical research it was brought to my attention that an ancestor of mine claimed in a book published in 1892 that his Grandmother was Peggy "Adams" Randall, first cousin to Pres. John Quincy Adams.
(I'm quessing she lived between 1750-18something?)
Well I know we all want our fifteen minutes of fame, but I have been unable to find a "Peggy" Adams anywhere in the Adams family genealogies I've looked at. Was one of the other girls called "Peggy" as a nickname and I just don't see that? FIRST being the operative wording there.. that implies it had to been a male relative related to John Q's Father that would have made her name Adams and her relation FIRST cousin and not further removed cousin...maybe they were mistaken as to the how many removed cousin position she was? confusing I know...
Quite possibly this was false information passed to that generation back then in 1892, But here's the first paragraph I found and let you see in what context it was written.. A Memorial and Biographical History of Ellis County, Texas Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company, 1892. Reprint, Ellis County Historical Museum and Art Gallery, Inc. 1972. This book (the reprint) is currently held in the Ellis County Historical Museum

The mother Mary Randall was a daughter of Wm. & Peggy (Adams) Randall who was 1st cousin of President John Quincy Adams.Wm Randall, grandfather of our subject, was a NY native.During the whole Revolutionary war he was put on a man-of-war where he served through the whole war.His sons fought in the war of 1812 and his grandsons on the war of the rebellion on the Southern side.
Does "Peggy" ring a bell with nay of you?
Could this be the same Peggy Adams (b:1764 - 1825) that married MICHEAL Randall Oct 24, 1785 in Charlotte Co, VA. Her father's name at LDS site was listed as James (b: abt 1738)??? I'm reaching here...
Could "my" William's full name be Micheal William Randall?
