George W. Adams and Martha E. McCoy were my great-grandparents.I am a descendent of William Franklin "Bill" Adams.I have a copy of my grandfathers death certificate and it deffinitely states that Martha's last name was McCoy.The only marriage certificate that can be found is in Lincoln and her name is spelled McCord. I am not convinced that is the right one.
The assumption is that they were not married when Henry Sylvester was born since one of Sylvester's daughters was married under the name of McCoy.I don't know if that is true.I have only been able to find George and Martha in the 1880 Limestone Co., AL census.I can't find them before or after. I understand that Martha died when Walter was born. I believe that his father was James. (If his age is even correct on the one census that we have to go by). I have searched on George, Martha, Henry, Sylvester, and all variations.I cannot find them.
It has been so long since I did any research on the Adams that I can't put my finger on my records at the moment. All my records are in boxes.I found a George, son of James and traced James back to Limestone Co. This James was living in one of the counties just above Giles.I believe he is the James that is on the 1840 Giles census.George was not in the household with James in the 1870 census. He doesn't show up again until 1880.This is the information I have noted in my family file.It does not include the census infor I found for James because I haven't been able to prove Georges parents.I have some notes that were told to me by Ila Haggard. She is the daughter of Bill Adams. She was almost 90 when I talked to her in 2001.She died not too long after that. I don't know if any of the Indian iformation is correct but she certainly enjoyed telling the story.I couldn't confirm any of it. I certainly couldn't find a "Lone Star" on any of the Indian rolls.I am researching the Indian heritage of the Pitts. Grandaddy Bill had several wives with children by each. Only my mother and her one full sister had the black hair, dark eyes, and skin.

According to Aunt Ila, "Daddy Bill's (William F.) grandfather lived to be 115 years old. He was called Jake, pronounced Jakee,or the "Old Indian".According to the stories, they tried to give him an Indian burial. (which grandfather???)William's grandfather was married to a full blooded indian named "Lonestar" and had no English name.
According to the old stories, William's grandfather met this Indian woman, Lonestar, as the Indian's were coming down the Elk river in a carved canoe. They used to hide in the caves, apparently to escape the removal. They had been forced out of their home by white settlers and they were floating down the Elk River. They had stopped at a cave spring to rest and get water where she met her husband to be. She stayed there with him while her family went on down the river. "
Place of burial unknown - tombstone book shows "by sons"
Someone claims that his middle name is Washington but I cannot confirm that and do not know who provided that information.
E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will share the info that I have.I would like to have the info you have on Sylvester for my files.I don't have names of his children.
