My great-great grandfather, THOMAS A. FITZPATRICK, was born May 15, 1831 in Montgomery, AL (also listed as being born in Florence, NY May 15, 1832).In 1868, Thomas Fitzpatrick married SARA ANN SNYDER. They had three children, JOHN EDWIN, CARRIE VELMA, and MAUDE. The family moved from Washington, D.C. and lived in Pennsylvania and New York State before settling in Mound City, Pulaski county, IL.
Sara and Thomas were divered. On June 22, 1881 Thomas Married MAGGIE ADAMS in Pulaski county, IL. The marriage didn't last very long. On September 9, 1891 in Cook county IL, Thomas married JENNIE HOWE. I have no details of either of these two unions. I need to know more about these marriages, and if any chilren resulted from them.
Thomas became the 1st superintendent of the National Cemetary at Santa Fe, NM in 1870. Santa Fe’s initial designation as a national cemetery was short lived. In July 1876, the War Department decided that, to save expenses, its status should be downgraded to that of a post cemetery. Major Thomas A. FitzPatrick was transferred to Mound City National Cemetery, Ill. And there as superintendent, he was shot to death by Michael Tobin, an employee on June 21, 1899.
Thomas's father, JOHN FITZPATRICK had a farm in Florence, NY in 1872. It is believed that John's other children were RICHARD, B. A. FITZPATRICK ( MORAN ), EMILY FITZPATRICK (KENNEDY ), and KATE. Among the other surnames on this family tree are OVERSTREET, JONAS, GORMAN, MILLER, BOSCH, WADE, SJOBERG, HINER, GAUNT, KESERIC, and HEMMING ( from Finland ).
