Until names are thrown at you they are forgotten. Once mentioned they can put things together. Sounds like you have put a few things in place now. Glad to have been of help.
The IGI is the International Genealogical Index by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have a great time on it.
The records are supposed to be from Government Records but everything still needs to be verified. Some people don't like the site because they have found incorrect info on it but like in your case, if it can give you a clue I'm happy to pass info on. It all depends who gave the info in the first place I think and then there are the typos. Some dates will vary by 20 years.
Always read all the entries as there might be something different in then. Some will just have the parents while another has the children listed. Too much info is not always the best. Start with everything and then drop things out, it may make a difference.
type in Familysearch IGI
Don't put a gap in Family and search. I think it is the second topic listed but it is the search one you are after anyway. You will see at the left there are other areas as well.
Good luck and don't hesitate to get back to me if you have a question.
