Hello Prof. Guffin:
I have read with interest your posts on the DOBBS family forum and, although I don't have any information re Owen Adams, the posts re LODOWICK (Adams?) Dobbs and his wife Sarah Adams are intriguing.
A VA genealogist suggested that I look in Charles Co MD for the roots of my elusive Thomas Boswell Adams (1779-1836) who lived in Fredericksburg VA as an adult, migrated to Copiah County MS in the early 1830s and died there in 1836.
I am a stickler for proofs of the courthouse kind and think I have found the birthplace and parents of TBA:Charles County MD.
Francis, the probable immigrant, d.1698
Charles,
LODOWICK d.1770
Josias d.1805 m. Sarah BOSWELL d/o William Adams
Thomas Boswell Adams d.1836 m. Judith Burnley of Orange Co VA
Several of the Charles Co MD Adamses moved back and forth across the Potomac to the Counties of Prince William, Fauquier, Fairfax, Stafford and City of Fredericksburg VA.
There are also some early Adamses in Northumberland and Gloucester.I find some later ones in Lunenburg and Mecklenburg.I don't know if any of these are connected to the Charles County MD Adams families.
Also, family tradition has it that Thomas Boswell Adams was "blood related" to President Adams (no proof, but a few VA internet searchers claim it with no proof); and that his wife Judith Burnley, d/o Capt.Garland Burnley and Frances Taylor was "blood related" to Presidents Madison, Monroe and Taylor (proven).
Since LODOWICK is quite a distinctive name (not to mention a bit "heretical" e.g. Lodowick Muggleton (1609-1698) of London), I wonder if you have ruled out a Lodowick Dobbs connection to Lodowick Adams of Charles County MD?
Thank you.
Beverley
