Linda and John, May I break into this interesting exchange with one of those "straw in the wind" questions? When I was reading your notes, the name William Russell jumped out at me.I am looking for Lemuel Allen Adams (b 1797, VA; d 1892, TX). He and his wife, Elizabeth Brewer (b 1797, SC; d 1883, TX), had a son named William Russell Adams who, in turn, had a son named William Russell Jr. In addition, Lemuel had a brother named William F. (b 1777, VA; d 1856, GA). Their father is believed to be either William or Samuel Robert.
I realize that William and Samuel are very common Adams names, but the addition of Russell as well as your name Allensworth caught my attention. My Lemuel's other siblings were Samuel, Anna Eleanor (m Humphrey B.Rogers), and Patterson. The kids births were spread from 1777 to 1803 so there could have been 2 or 3 mothers.
If any of this sounds familiar, I surely would like to talk with you. My aunts and cousins have searched for Lemuel's parents since the 1930's and have found had no hard evidence of them. The last cousins who were looking for Lemuel are now in 89 and 86 years old and say that they can't look any more. So, we "younger" cousins are trying our hand. Thanks for your time.
