John: Since you are the 4th you immediately get back to your great-grandfather. Do you have any information beyond that that? You could always try a search on familysearch.com. It's free. Do you know where John Adams I lived, married, died, buried? The U.S. Census may be able to help you out in that situation. If you have additional knowledge on your ancestors before John I, you could send it to me to see if your ancestor is in my database. I have several thousand descendants of William Adams of Ipswich (1635.) Of course there are many Adams descendancies such of Robert of Newburyport, the Presidential line of Henry Adams of Braintree, Mass. There is Jeremy of Hartford, CT and the list goes on. You need to stick with building basics. Go back to your earliest ancestor and determine where and when he lived and then start checking sources for that time and area. Good Luck.
