I am trying to trace my great grandmothers family. Her name was Leon Clifton born May 11th 1890 in Belton TX. She married Everrt P Harry. She wrote up a paper and its all the information I have..it goes like this copied just as she wrote it. If any of this is familiar please contact me.
Your great great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Adams. Born in TN about 1835. Died in TX (victoria) 1916. Went from TN to TX by wagon train 1837 or 38. The history from the who-is-who said Mary Elizabeth was 3 yrs old. They had a colony about where houston TX is now. There were some indians who were not friendly with the white people. One day and indian chief came to thier cabin and asked to take the baby Mary. Then were much greved but let him have her. The next day the chief and his squaw brought Mary back and had beads around her neck. They made the Adams family understand that white people trust indian so the indian would trust white people. So from then on the indians gave them no trouble. I do not know the madain name of my great grandmother. It could have been Spencer, that was a madian name some where in the family. Grandma lived under three flags in TX. The union, the confederat and the USA. She only had one brother. Spencer Adams of Dallas TX. He had a son named Spencer (son of Sam Shelby Spencer Clifton my brother) Grandma was married at an early age to a Shelby, the father of my mother and her brother Sam. He died when the children were young and she was married to a man by the name of Gee. This is as near correct as I can give it to you. Grand ma Harry age 72.
