OSCAR P. ADAMS Cottage Grove, Lane, Or. Oct. 26. Oscar P. Adams, one of the best known pioneers of Cottage Grove, was buried here today from the Christian Church, Rev. Elkins, of Lebanon, officiating. His death occurred Friday, at the age of 86 years. Oscar P. Adams was one of 13 children and a direct descendant of President John Quincy Adams. He was born in 1828 in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He moved with his parents to Michigan in 1854. In 1858, in company with Alex Spare, he purchased 640 acres of land here, a portion of which is now within the city. Mr. Adams was married in 1861 to Miss Mary Elizabeth Saylor. She died June 30, 1870. The surviving children are: Mrs. Charles Viles, Mrs. George Hawley, Mrs. A.J. Armstrong, Mrs. Charles Van Buren, Mrs. Frank Cathcart, and Mrs. G.W. McFarland.
