The Portsmouth Times, Portsmouth, Ohio May 12, 1931, Tuesday Death Claims Former Auditor John T. Adams, Who Was Born In Pike Co., Dies In Columbus. COLUMBUS, O., May 12. Funeral services for John T. Adams, 73, a railway contractor in Columbus for the last 35 years, who died Monday at his home, 182 Buttles Avenue, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday at the residence.Burial will be in Amaranth Abbey by the Schoedinger Co. Mr. Adams, who was born in Coopersville, Ohio, entered the railway contracting business in 1803 and completed many large railway contracts, including the elevating of the Pennsylvania, Hocking Valley and T. & 0. C. tracks for grade elimination in Columbus.He also contracted for trackage for the Scioto Traction Co. Mr. Adams was president of the Concrete Materials Co., the General Laundry, and vice president of the Columbus, Urbana & Western Railway Co. He was educated in the public schools of Pike County and, previous to entering the contracting business, served two terms as auditor of Pike County.He was first elected in 1881. Mr. Adams was a member of Athletic Club, Aladdin Temple, Scioto Consistory, Orient Blue Lodge. and Northminster Presbyterian Church. Surviving him are his widow, a daughter, Ota: two sons, Orville and Noel; a brother, four sisters and three grandchildren.
