James Adams, son of Thomas and Ann, was born in 1784 in Rockingham County NC.Furthermore, Thomas also had a brother James (son of George Adams), who was probably born in abt 1756 in NC or VA.According to the will of George Adams (May 1802, Rockingham Co NC), James Adams was living at that time.Stated in the will is the following, "....I give and bequeath to my son, James Adams, one schilling."
Col. Joel Lewis was born 28 Aug 1760 in Albemarle, VA and died on 22 Nov 1816 in Davidson Co (in or near Nashville) TN.
Joel Lewis was a prominent fellow. He was a revolutionary soldier, fought at Kings Mtn where he was wounded twice. He was a political rival, but also friend, to Andrew Jackson. He and Andrew Jackson were two of five members from Davidson Coounty sent to the 1796 TN Constitutional Convention.Joel Lewis became the first Senator in the State Legislature from Davidson County.Later, a son of Joel Lewis served as secretary to President Jackson.
The fact that Joel Lewis was appointed guardian to five of the Adams children indicates that he, most likely, is somehow related to Thomas or Ann.While serving as their guardian, Joel Lewis apparently helped to arrange the marriages of brothers Daniel and David Adams to sisters Susannah and Betsy Fielder.Joel Lewis' sister married a Fielder.More research is needed to establish the possible connection to the Adams line.
I'll watch for information on James Adams that might be of interest to you.Good luck.
