In "Fluvanna County and it's People.." there is recorded the marriage
" 20. Charles Fleming Payne, born January 8, 1768. He married Polly Adams, daughter of Thomas Adams' bond Goochland January 12, 1788. "
I am aware of only two Thomas Adams of that time and area.
There was a Thomas Adams, son of Ebenezar and brother of Richard. This Thomas married Elizabeth Fauntleroy. He would have been about the correct age to have a daughter of marrying age in 1788.However, it is my understanding that this Thomas had no children.
The other is Thomas Adams, son of James. This Thomas married Sally Ford in 1786, so his children would not have been old enough in 1788.
I have not seen the original marriage bond.Is it possible that Polly was a sister of Thomas Adams rather than a daughter? All of James Adams' daughters are accounted for except for Sookie. She would have been about 15 in 1788.
