I have a document dated Oct. 30, 1911 signed by Mrs. Fannie M. Adams age 63 of Nevada, Story Co., IA. I'm looking for her maiden name. It could be Moore or Hopkins or something else.
She states in the affidavit that she personally knew my William Henry Hopkins "before he became of a marriageable age and before his enlistment."(1861) ... and that she also knew his wife Kate Moore Hopkins "ever since she became of marriageable age and at the time she married on Dec. 28, 1864."
William Henry Hopkins was born 1838 or 1840 in Springville, Erie Co., NY. He was in Iowa by 1860 and enlisted from Spragueville, Jackson Co., IA in 1861. He married Kate Moore b1846 Schenectady, NY, the adopted daughter of (Henry) George Moore & Adelia Jane Horton of Luzerne, Warren Co., NY and since 1868 of Nevada, Story Co., Iowa.
A daughter of William & Kate Moore Hopkins, Hattie Louise Hopkins Haddox 1868-1955, kept a scrapbook and in it are 3 calling cards for sisters Clara L. Adams, Mary B. Adams, and Nellie or Nettie I. Adams.
In the 1880 Census for Richland, Story Co., Iowa their parents are listed as J. Y. Adams b1847 NY and Fanny Adams b1849 NY. Clara was b1873 IA, Mary b1871 IA, and Nellie b1869 IA.
I am hoping these Adams are somehow related as family to my Hopkins or Moores. I have no names for William Henry Hopkins parents born @1800 NY or any siblings so I would be thrilled to discover a blood relationship between the 2 families. Did they all know each other back in NY and move to Iowa together? William and Kate Hopkins did live in Nevada, Story Co., IA for several years. Their daughter Lillian Elenor Hopkins was born there in 1874.
