There is a Martin and Matilda Adams who show up in the South Division of Surry Co., NC in the late 1830's. They are here on the 1840 and 1850 census. This part subsequently became part of Yadkin Co. inlate 1850, and this Martin and Matildawere residents of this county thereafter. Their birth dates on the censuses seem the match up with Martin Adams and Matilda Flynt who were married in Stokes Co. This Martin was a member of the Yadkin Co. Militiaand 1st Battalion Sharpshooters during the Civil War. He died before 1870, and she died after 1880. Their children were Ellis C., Mary Catherine, Julia A., John, William, and Sarah Ann. I've been unable to find burials for any of this family. They all died before 1900. I'm reasonably sure the Stokes Martin & Matilda Adams is the same as the Yadkin Martin & Matilda Adams.
