Several Montgomery researchers have been assisting a direct descendant of Elisabeth ("Betsy") Adams [born 20 May 1820] who married Robert Montgomery [born 27 April 1808 in VA] in Clinton County, Ohio. The record of a license No 1603 dated 8 February 1836 stated "Robert Montgomery of lawful age &c. on his oath and Elisabeth Adams by certifcate duly proven by Thos. Adams". The return of the marriage stated that on 10 February 1836 they were married by David Morton, JP. Their first daughter was named Sarah and first son was named Peter. Among the later children were Manliffe and Elias.
On the 1880 census, Robert is shown as born in Virginia to a father born in Delaware and a mother born in Virginia. Eliabeth is shown as born Ohio and both parents Delaware.
It is possible, but far from proved, that Robert was the son of Robert and Sarah (Skidmore) Montgomery of Rockbridge Co, VA, who moved ca 1814 to Highland Co, OH, where he died in 1847 intestate. I'll summarize what we believe is solid.
Wayne Township was not formed until 1837 from Green (now on its south and west) and Richland (now on its north) Townships.

Peter and Mary ("Polly") died in Highland County but were buried with family at the Grove-Geff cemetery in Wayne Township, Clinton County, Ohio. Peter died 4 December 1858 (or 1856) at age 71. Polly died 30 May 1869 at 77 years, 1 month, and 20 days. According to Find-A-Grave: "Grove-Geff Cemetery is located in a field off the east side of OH-72, about a ½ mile southeast of Luttrell Road, in Memphis, Ohio (Wayne Township, Clinton County)."
There is or was an Adams family bible in Clinton County, Ohio. Has it been transcribed and made public?
Is there any solid evidence that Elisabeth Adams was a daughter of Peter and Polly and why she is sometimes called Sarah Elizabeth in current-day genealogies?
