Years ago when I got my g-grandfather's Civil War pension papers, I sent off to the State of Texas, furnishing the pension # (#10822 for Francis Marion ADAMS) and got back much info: * the application for widow's pension - had military info on it, affadavit signatures, etc. * death certificate for the veteran - showed date & cause of death, place of birth, etc. * seems like there was an approval paper there also, with amount to be rec'd monthly. * and last was the death certificate for the widow - with additional family history.
I'm not sure of the routine now, but your local librarian can tell you. It may be that you can now get that info IN TEXAS from your local city hall, like you can get birth & death certificates.Check it out . . . and good luck!
