Anne,I've included the outline of my ABRAM ADAMS line for you to look at. As you can see, neither of my ABRAM ADAMS men were alive in 1909...The name BESSIE surely rings a bell for me though.
Have you looked on any of the Shelby Co. census for 1860-1910?There was an ABRAHAM ADAMS in Lowndes Co. at abt. the same time as my JAA,Sr. I think they were related but haven't found out how yet.
If you look on a modern day map of ALA...notice Shelby & Lowndes Co. locations to each other. Now, think of going between them in the early 1820's when ALA became a state. There was a road named the Old Federal Road basically where I-65 is now.It ran the length of the state, connecting Nashville to Mobile....sort of.Between Shelby Co & Mtgy...there was the Plank Road...
Lots of renegade Indians still roamed the eastern 1/3 of the state until the 1830's by which time most of them had either assimilated or left the area.
My mystery is...if my ABRAM ADAMS, Sr. was in Shelby Co. in the late 1830's, isi he the same one who patented land in Lowndes Co. in the early to mid 1830's?
All censes of the time I've read list a William ADAMS near him...even in Shelby Co.
They were prob. brothers as the two families had several intermarriages between the 2nd & 3rd gen. children.
That's all I really know...so maybe we can work together to fill in some more blank spaces...
