Pleasant Adams shows up in the 1880 census data for Elliott County, Kentucky, as a 26 year old farmer who could both read and write. The census states Pleasant and both of his parents were born in Kentucky. His D.O. B. would have been between 6/1/1853 and 5/30/1854. Pleasant's wife at the time s a woman named Catherine (maiden name unknown). She was a 22 year old homemaker and could neither read nor write. The census states that Catherine and both her parents were born in Kentucky. Her D.O.B. would have been between 6/1/1857 and 5/30/1858. Pleasant and Catherine had two children by 1880: Polly Ann, then 3 years old, and John Mason, then 1 year old (D.O.B. 3/3/1879).
Unfortunately there is no 1890 census data available for Elliott County, Kentucky.
The 1900 census for Elliott County, Kentucky lists only one Pleasant Adams and gives his D.O.B. as 10/1850 and his age as 49.This is a bit off from what it should be if the 1880 Pleasant above and this Pleasant are the same guy, but I think they may be anyways because this Pleasant is also listed as a farmer who could both read and write and he and both of his parents were born in Kentucky. The census also says that he had been married for 7 years to Arminthe...I think this is a misspelling of Aramathe (a.k.a. "Methie") Elliott, who would have been a second wife. The census gives Aramathe's D.O.B. as August 1873 and her age as 26 years.Again this doesn't quite jive with the 1880 census data I have on Aramathe Elliott which gives her age as (which would have made her 25, not 26 at the 1900 census), but since she could neither read nor write I'm not surprised.
I have some more information on the descendents of this Pleasant Adams via his son John Mason and some about Methie Elliott and her family if anyone is interested.
Can anyone help me connect this Pleasant Adams with the Pleasant Adams of Mercer Co., Kentucky, and Parke Co., Indiana.Because the Mercer Co. Pleasant Adams was born in 1821 and my guy was born about 1854, I think they may be father and son.
