Dear Ed, Thanks for your response. I was aware of the Eliza Dolph affair from the description in the "Adams Chronicles", but I can't give you the citation, because the bookisn't here. It gave information concerning the affair, the failed blackmail attempt, and the ensuing legal actions. It claims Charles was unaware of the Dolph situation until he was cleaning up George's papers after the purported "suicide" in 1829. The story named Eliza Dolph, but not the child.
There is a legend circulating that suggests George's "suicide" was actually staged by George, probably with Charles' assistance, to escape the scandal. And that George secretly moved to the Ohio Valley to live a quiet life away from the limelight.
Family Tree Maker references a number of George Washington Adams in Ohio and Indiana in the mid to late 1800's. No direct link is apparent.
