I know this is very late but I'm sure it will be helpful. In the Gorman, Eastland Co., TX cemetery is a tombstone that reads: "Sarah A. Rhodes, Jan 14, 1825 - 9 Mar 1899".She is buried in the Bennett family plot. At the Eastland Co. courthouse is the death certificate of Jennie Kansas Rhodes Bennett (whose tombstone in the same plot reads: "22 Feb 1857 - 25 Jan 1931").The parents of Jennie Kansas are given as Moses Rhodes and Sarah Adcock.
My g-gf was John Wesley Rhodes (b 26Aug1872 TN - 10Jan1957 Brownwood, Brown Co., TX.).His family was under the assumption he was an orphan since they were told his father died before he was born and a Mr. Beasley in TN raised him.He said he came to Gorman, TX when he was 12.Looking through the 1880 Humphrey's Co., TN census (pg 162), there is Elizabeth (15) & John W. (8) living with Mr. Beasley.Ten years earlier in Humphrey's Co. (pg 89), is Sarah A. Rhodes living 6 houses away from Mr. Beasley. All this matches with what you and I have so far.
If you are still out there and want more information, get back with me.John Wesley has 3 sons still alive but there was very little oral tradition passed down to help. There were enough leads to get this far though.
In the 1860 Dickson Co. TN census, (pg. 247), Moses & Sarah are living next to a bunch of Adcocks, including Johnathan (69) and Martha (61).Two houses away from Moses is a Newton Rhodes, 64 b. NC living with Nancy (Adcock) Crow and her family.I'm sure Newton is related to Moses, but I would like some documentation to show he is his father.I would any information you have about this line on back.Thank you. Bill
