Alicia, I am working with a lady in Texas on Hiram ADDISON. He had a third wife, Carolne Irena/Serena MADDOX, dau. of John Wiley MADDOX & Matilda Caroline POLLARD. They had only been married a few years when Hiram died in 1880.
The 1870 and 1880 censuses are very confusing. For instance, the 1870 census has three of Serena's children (Mary, Nancy & Gertrude) from her first marriage, in Union Co., AR, to John KNIGHT, in Hiram's household but Serena isn't listed. She is head of her own household, as Caroline KNIGHT, with five daughters in the Weste Ward of Rapides Par., LA. Mary, Nancy & Gertrude are the three youngest of them. The Weste Ward of Rapides Par. bordered on Sabine Par.
Caroline's household was enumerated on 31 Jul 1870 and Hiram's was done on 10 Sep. Maybe this is an indication of when they married.
Serena appears in two different households on the 1880 census, with H. Addison (enumerated on 6 Jun) and as a widow with her parents (enumerated on 16 Jun).
We are still sorting children between Hiram's three wives, Rebecca, Mary and Carolne Serena. Any help greatly appreciated.
