A xerox of the original of this letter was sent to my by Clarke Rodgers, a descendant of Rev. Elijah Elmore who's 3rd wife, Hattie M (Hammond) Elmore, whote this.
Mt. Norman, Georgia 5th of April 1873
Your uncle is dressing and asked my to write you a few lines: he is going to Senoia this evening to see about sending your money to you.Dr. Taylor says a Bank check is the safest and surest plan: there are no Money Order offices about here.Senoia is not: and I hear the other day the Newnan is not.
Your uncle Wesley says that he did not know whether this is all that is due you or not, till he see the bank in Newnan and if there is any more he will send it when he sends Eddie’s and Emmett’s, money. They are sending you more than your are expecting.$77.00 he said he only made a rough calculation, when he sent the amount.
Mr. Elmore will do the best he can, about, sending it to you: will sent it the best, way he can, just as soon as he can.
Now for myself: I wish to know what is the matter with your Ma: I have not received anything from her since the 10th of last Oct.I have written 3 or 4 letters to her since I got one.I started a little dress to Hattie in April it the 22nd I am afraid it got lost and I never heard one word from it: I am sorry it did: for all who saw it said it was the best dress the ever saw.
Why did you quit writing to me?Did you all of my epistles?I am always glad to hear from my friends.Give my love to your Mother, Eddie and Emmett also to Willie; I wish I could see all, but that is a pleasure that is not likely, I will ever enjoy.May God bless you all and if we see each other not in this life may we meet above where there will be no more parting nor sorrow not sighing.
I am as ever your loving Aunt Hattie M. Elmore
