Dunlap Orphanage was located in Hickory Grove,S.C.(York Co.)and was moved to Tipton Co.,Tn. in 1905.Eva May and Louise were not placed in the orphanage until about 1907/1908 Brother James was 17 years old when the 2 sisters were left.It is said that James joined Ringling Bros. circus and may have settled in Texas. The 1910 census for Dunlap Orphanage lists Louise Adkins birthplace and that of her parents as "unknown",but in the same census her sister,Eva was listed as being born in Tennessee and the birthplace of both her parents as South Carolina.I tend to believe that the 2 sisters were born in South Carolina since her parents were born there and that is where the orphanage moved from.I believe the census taker may have made the assumption that she was born in Tn. since that's where the orphanage was located. I spoke to someone at the church in South Carolina and he told me that even after the orphanage was moved from S.C.to Tn. that children continued to be sent there from S.C. This seems to be the case since I spoke to someone at the public library in Tipton Co. who had knowledge of the orphanage and he confirmed this and said that rarely were there ever any children in there from anywhere locally.Still seeking info. on any of these Adkins.
