From information recently gleaned,I believe that my g.g.g.grandfather John A. Adkins, born in Franklin or Halifax County, VA, in 1804, could be the son of John M. Adkins and Ginsey (Patsy?) Lumkin/Lumpkin...possible daughter of a William Lumkin and Ann Courtney.
Children listed for John M. Adkins/Atkins and Patsy/Ginsey Lumkin are:
James,b. 1800?(m. Mary?) Henry,b. 1795?(m. Elizabeth?) Joel Pleasant, b. abt. 1803? (m. Polly Freeman) William Nancy Dicy Patsy John A., born 1804, Franklin Co. VA (m. Susannah Meador Oct. 6, 1830)...my ancestors!
John M. Adkins is possibly the son of Amos Atkins/Adkins.Amos was born in England, married a Chickasaw Indian woman, and died in Franklin Co. VA.
I have no dates available regarding births or deaths for Amos Atkins or John M. Adkins, and am hoping that someone will recognize this family and its ancestry/ descendancy. The timing would be right for Amos to have served in the Revolutionary War from Virginia.
Any new information gleaned on this family would be very much appreciated, regarding proofs, such as wills or probate records. I have the 1850 census for John A. Adkins and Susannah "Susan" Meador, Franklin Co., VA, but as we know, earlier census records do not reveal family listings. Sincerely, Linda Siekman
