I have read numerous postings saying that the Adkins line is not of Native descent. The recent theory is Melungeon or variations thereof. I too am descended from William and Elizabeth Parker Adkins through Littleberry. I have alot of old photographs, and have heard of Native American lineage. Through the photos, Talks with other Adkins, and with my mother, Uncles, Cousins, etc. Have found no Melungeon ever heard of until I read a few postings. In the above there is no single trait said to be on those who come from Melungeon ancestory. Deep ridge in back of neck, Shovel teeth, etc. is not prevelent. So if it is true that we are descended from Melungeons which I have investigated and found no evidence of. Where are the traits. Our Native American Oral Histories are all the same. Native American in the family. And all point to this being true thus far. My theory right now is that Mitha was Native American and not English. Yes I have seen it posted on files, forums, etc. But they give no surname other than a possible Davidson. I have also thought of Elizabeth being the variation of nickname Mitha. Which is possible but quite odd. And her burial at the mouth of the creek in Wayne County W.V. is odd as well. No evidence shows she was buried with others in her family there either before or after her death. Seems to me something may have been hidden here. Not disputing anyone's beliefs here, Just haven't had any solid evidence of Melungeon ancestory. If anyone can prove otherwise I am open to it.
