Notes for DRURY S. ADKINS: Drury ADKINS is shown to have won 1000 acres and coming from Pittsylvania, VA according to the 1820 census. Seven children are shown to be at home, James was not included and there are no dates of birth on Mary and Martha so it is hard to say which one it was. The early census records give the declaration that Drury was not a slave owner.
Per records from Hagarville, AR: "Two brothers settled at Erwin, TN, where the nme of one was erroneaously recorded as ATKINS>" From two sources came like stories of an "Estate Quarrel" among some of Drury's heirs.(Dec. 1855) For whatever reason, the erroneous recording in the early 1800's stood as ATKINS>
Homer ADKINS, former Governor of Arkansas, believed his ancestors to be from the same Drury S. Adkins of Dickson Co., TN. The early records of Union County, TN were destroyed by fire
