According to a book "The Descendants of William Adkins 1810-1996" compiled by Minnie Ola Hall McCranie & Katy Adkins Singletary in 1996 and printed by a print shop in Clemson, SC owned by Joyce Adkins (the accuracy of which I am not sure as it is secondary evidence and not primary evidence), William Adkins (Joseph 3, John 2, Joseph 1) was born 10 Feb 1810 Washington Co., GA and died 26 Aug 1869 Dooly Co., GA, buried Adkins Cem. (location?).He m. Elizabeth Hightower, dau. of Echols and Nancy Perry Hightower, from Laurens Co.They were the parents of 11 children, 2 of whom died in infancy.Elizabeth was born 29 Sept 1811 Laurens Co., GA, died 10 Feb 1884 Dooly Co., GA, buried Adkins Cem.I was the book gave some sources for this information. The names of their 9 children were:

I wish they had given some documentation in the book for all of this. They do give some land records for Wm. Adkins and the Oath of Amnesty signed by William after the end of the Civil War on 12 July 1865 at Vienna, GA but other than that they omitted giving any sources so I doubt I can cite this book and the DAR would be willing to accept it without other sources.I am particularly concerned about proof for William's father, Joseph Adkins (b. ca. 1773 Chesterfield Co., VA, d. after 1840 Washington Co., GA) m. beore 1806 Annie Harris (b. ca. 1773 Washington Co., GA, d. before 1840 Washington Co., GA).Joseph and Annie had 1 child:William.
Joseph's father was John Adkins (b. before 1743 Chesterfield Co., VA, d. after 1786 Chesterfield Co., VA) m. Anne UNKNOWN.John was a Rev. War Soldier (Sgt. in the 4th Reg. Continental Line) & served in VA.They had 5 children.Had issue. He is confirmed as a Rev. War soldier but no sources were given to prove his children.Since there is no proof in the book that Joseph was a child of John and that William was a child of Joseph, I doubt the DAR would accept this. Can you help or do you know someone who can.I live in northwest AR so there is not much chance of doing any genealogical research here except on-line.I would be willing to give you any help I can if you can help me with Adkins.I do not have access to the 3 historical collections books on Dooly Co., GA.
