I dunno. As I have ties to some of these Adkins and Watts from the Wayne Co. area. Nothing has been found to say they were or they weren't, and none of my family alive Adkins or otherwise have the tell~tale signs reported to be indication of melungeon,ie golfball sized bumps on neck, strange diseases, etc. The only thing possible is the shovel teeth portion, but that shows up in Native Americans as well. Not denying your claim here, but until further proof arises (as in so many other stories of my ancestors), I will have to remain holding some doubt as to the story of melungeon. I am directly descended from Parker Adkins (on my Adkins side) and Daniel Jackson Watts (on my Watts side). Both lines are maternal.
