My mother says she was told we had Irish and Native American in the family. And that Watts should have been Skidmore. All family stories. Well we all know that there is ScotchIrish in the family, for lack of a better term, and just a couple of years ago we found evidence in the Lambert Papers of my Watts ancestor being son of a Skidmore. So NA is a possumsability. Most Adkins and their relatives have the same features you mentioned. You look no different in the pic you sent me, of you and your son, than any of the rest of my family, including myself. I too have been asked on occasion if I am from NA descent, oftentimes from those who are of NA descent themselves. Depending on who you talk to, Parker/Bluesky, happened or didn't happen. No proof thus far on any of this story one way or the other. I have had some leads that never panned out to prove this union. And those who have said it did happen never are able to verify to me, although they say they have documentation, their story. I often receive "My scanner is broken." "I seem to have misplaced it." or when I send an eMail to verify anything on it I also get no reply at all. My guess is that it most likely has some truth in it. But if so no one is able to verify it and are just trying to act like a bigshot about it by claiming they have proof. Melungeon, I am sorry to say, is believed by alot of my family to be a made up word for people of mixed race. The Carmelite Indians here in Ohio are just a group of mixed folks living in the same county I was born in. Yet they are called melungeon for some reason. From some accounts they dispise this word 'Melungeon' and consider it derrogatory. Everyone is free to believe in anything pertaining to Melungeon, but I do not believe in our Adkins being Melungeon. No mention of the word in the family, no tell tale signs in the family, etc. And for those who WILL reply to what I said of Melungeon. Take note that anything is believed if on the Inet. This is why we have this conflict right now, because someone stated we are Melungeon. I am not and I descend directly form the Adkins mentioned. Also just because some Doctor stated Melungeon does not mean any validity is to it. I am just saying I do not buy the Melungeon story, and know that the Adkins alive today are not Melungeon from the Wayne Co. area. Politically Incorrect, most likely, but I get ticked when people not directly or distantly connected, who do not know the Adkins on a first name, 1st & 2nd cousin basis, as I do, say alot of garbage abt. the family. True Ronnie Adkins, you yourself Linda, and I disagree on alot of things, but I must say I agree with Ronnie and you on this Melungeon thing. "It Just Ain't TRUE." Oh and yes after researching Melungeon I have changed my beliefs in them since I last posted on them being discriminated against. I just don't buy it. I could be wrong, but if they are around, and the Carmelites are called this, yet hate the discriptive term, claiming they are not, why hasn't someone wrote a truthful account. They are Portuguese to me. My family of Adkins may be termed as being Sasquatch next, or perhaps we Adkins descendants are "Mothmen" if the whole Cornstalk story is true. None the less the Adkins line has been here a long time, have protected our country, still do, and are deservant of being treated with respect. Keep them and the other soldiers, of yesterday and today,in your thoughts and prayers during this time of war. I am not trying to bash poster's beliefs, but am defending my family from myths unfounded by the posts.
