You might be interested in some research that I've been doing for another descendant of Sarah -
(Deanna said) (17 Jan 2003) "James Emory married Sarah Jane Wllis (Sarah is reportd to be a full blooded Cherokee), they had a daughter named Nora (b. 1881 and d. 1951). Nora first married Will Gammons, who died in a mine explosion in 1911, they had four children: Melvin, Roy, Ed, and Naoma. Nora then married Charlie Adkins in 1914 and together they had four children: Olis, Ulis, Alice and CJ (died at age 6). Charlie was first married to Nora Belle Andrews and they had six children: Pearl, Ora, Russell, Dory, Catheline, and Josey. Charlie's parents were John Tylor Adkins and UNK Duncan (but my informant was not sure about Duncan). Any information on any of these indiviuals would be greatly appriciated."
(12 Feb 2003) "I am looking for info on the ancestor of Sarah Jane Willis. My great aunt and uncle know nothing of her family or James Emory's family. I have hit a road block with her and James. Sarah Jane Willis (Full blooded Cherokee) married James emory about 1875 known children are Javis?, John, Jasper, Nora, Maggie. Nora married Will Gammons had four children Naoma, Edward, Melvin, and Roy. Will died in a mine explosion in December 1911. She then married Charlie Adkins" ............................ Dianna Using the information from these 2003 posts, I located the family on the 1880 Anderson Co TN census, microfilm T9-1244: page 33. James "Emery" was shown as 60, a farmer, born TN and his father was born in SC (no listing for his mother's birthplace). "Sary" was shown as 40, born TN to parents who were born TN/TN. The entire family is shown as "white", including Sarah. At that time they had Lucinda (age 15), John (12), Cordelia (10), Matte (8), John (4) and Jasper (1) living in their household.I would venture a guess that each ofthe two John's were born of two different mothers.
Also- it would appear that the 1909 Clinton, Anderson Co TN obituary that you reported to Phil Stucker on the Emory Message Board(25 Jan 2003) may actually be Sarah's. She and her children are shown on the 1900 U.S. census of Anderson Co TN- line 35, Dist 6, page 91A.
There is no record of Sarah (Willis) Emory or any of her children on the 37 Cherokee rolls, or filing any application to be listed.
