PELZER - Joel Chandler Adkins, 93, husband of Elizabeth Hunt Rainey Adkins, of 218 Moores Mill Road, died Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Jesse Allen and Lida Lee Adkins. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the U. S. Postal Service. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where he was a Lay Leader, Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was also a member of Mountain Springs Masonic Lodge #302 for sixty-nine years and served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 17th Masonic District. In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by children and their spouses, David William and Diane Adkins of Martinsville, VA, Joann and Jolly Davis of Severna Park, MD, Jesse Clinton and Debbie Adkins of Pelzer, Nancy and Adam Blumer of Chesnee; and nine grandchildren, Lisa Davis, Erin Adkins, Kristin Adkins Whitesides, Jeremy Adkins, Adam Blumer, Katie Adkins, Todd Davis, Ann Blumer, and Alex Davis. He was predeceased by brothers, Rufus, Samuel, James, Frank, Charles, Grady, and Jesse Adger Adkins; and sisters, Mary Reid and Helen Ingle. Funeral services will be 3 pm Sunday at Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lowry Drennon and the Rev. Bob Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home and will receive friends 2-3 pm Sunday at the church prior to the service. The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and that memorials be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 135 Reid-Bagwell Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.
