Carl H. Adkins MAYODAN, N.C. -- Carl Harrison Adkins, 84, of 172 Will Road, Mayodan, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at his home. He was born in Rockingham County on Nov. 1, 1919, to Elder Sam Adkins Sr. and Ethel J. Tucker Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Beeson Adkins; a stepmother, Meadie Adkins; two brothers, Warren Adkins and Melvin Adkins; two sisters, Elba Doris Wilkins and Gayle Compton; and a stepbrother, Paul Sands. He was a member of Woodbine Baptist Church and active in the organization of the Dan Valley Community Center. Surviving are a son, Darrell Adkins of Mayodan; a daughter, Ethel Sechrist of Stoneville; one granddaughter; one grandson; three brothers, Dean Adkins of Madison, Reid Adkins of Mayodan and Sam Adkins of Martinsville, Va.; two sisters, Marybelle Newman of Madison and Ruth Dodson of Walnut Cove; and two stepbrothers, J.F. Sands and Lindsey Sands. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodbine Baptist Church with Dr. James Crews and Berlin Joyce officiating. Burial will follow in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, and other times at the home.
