This is information I have researched from the Internet:
Lewis D. Adkins Sr. b. 1 Jul 1757 (or 1755-1760) Albemarle Parish, Sussex County, VA, or b. 1759-1760 Goochland County, VA, d. before 15 Mar 1819 Madison Township, Jackson County, OH. Probate of Lewis’ estate began 15 Mar 1819. Jackson County was part of Gallia County, OH, until 1 Mar 1816. Place of birth: The reference book "Births, Deaths and Sponsors 1717-1778 from the Albemarle Parish Register of Surry and Sussex Counties, Virginia," by John Bennett Boddie has Adkins entries, including three men named Lewis Adkins, on pp. 2-3 and on other pages as baptismal sponsors.
1. Richard and Hannah Adkins had a son Lewis b. 9 Feb 1741, sponsors being John Adkins, Lewis Adkins, and Lucy Main. There are postings on Ancestry.com saying this son Lewis m. Susanna Horn. See next entry.
2. Lewis Adkins (b. 1722-1725, his birth not in this book) and wife Elizabeth (Felts) had a son Lewis born 22 Aug 1745, their other children being Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, William. This son Lewis b. 1745 m. Susannah Horn and eventually migrated to South Carolina, having children Hamlin, David, Anna, Susanna, Hartwell, William, Zaccheus, Davis.
3. A man named Lewis Adkins was a baptismal sponsor for other families, many of them Felts, on pp. 2, 44, 45, 63,68, 103, 128, & 152 in years 1744, 1749, 1750, 1753, 1755, 1757, and 1774. This is probably the Lewis Adkins who married Elizabeth Felts.
There is no record of a Lewis Adkins baptized from 1755-1760 in Albemarle Parish.
I question whether our Lewis Adkins was born in this parish, unless he wasn’t baptized. If he was born out of wedlock to Jacob Harley & Mary Adkins, perhaps he wasn’t baptized, although I have read references to “a bastard child” of so and so being baptized in some early church histories in Virginia. I fear that someone found these Albemarle references and decided that one of these is our ancestor and posted it, ignoring the published birth dates. If the Lewis Adkins born to Richard Adkins is ours, the birth date is wrong, and no Ancestry.com postings lists Richard as a possible father of the Lewis Adkins who died in 1819 in Jackson County, OH. I think the Goochland County, VA, birth location is more likely, especially if he does belong in the Jacob Harley-Mary Adkins family. Mary’s father moved his family from Surry-Sussex Counties to Henrico, and Goochland was formed from Henrico in 1727. Will share more information if you email me directly.
