Jake Adkins Sr. [Jacob Oxford Adkins who married Phoebe Bradshaw] first came to the Huntington [West Virginia] bottoms about where Marshall College stands, in 1806, and built a log cabin on the knoll there, but soon sold it for a horse, saddle, bridle, & a gun, and came to the mouth of Long Br. On Beech Fork [in present Wayne County, West Virginia] & took up land where “Fonso” Adkins, now lives, son of Johnson & Telitha Morrison Adkins (dau. James and Frances), at Bowen 3 miles below Morrison’s store. He sold it to a man named Booten—Reuben Booten, father of Asa Booten. Jefferson B. Bowen killed himself here. He married Martha Booten, dau. Of Reuben B. & sister of Asa Booten.
Edmund Ferguson left here andwent to what is now Council Bluffs, Iowa & took a claim & sold it.
A man Stokes (Brice), uncle to Edmund Ferguson, went there. Enoch Adkins, bro. to Lamech A. Sr. & Billy Jo” etc. went to Council Bluffs…
