Attention all Adney researchers:I have found the correct death year for William Adney, born 1802 in Virginia, he died 1873 in Crawford County, Wisconsin:
Source:"The Prairie du Chien Union" , Friday, January 2, 1874, Pg. 3, Col. 3:
"Wm. Adney, one of our first settlers eat (sic) his supper at the house of his son, apparently in good health, and was found dead in his chair the next morning.CLAYTON"
(At the Prairie du Chien Public Library, "Index" of the Union, Wm. Adney death date is shown as 12/16/1873.Per Mary Antoinne, Librarian, Doris Adney, daughter of George Adney, used to be the librarian there, and she may have known the death date.)
There is no death record or cemetery record for William. He is buried at North Clayton Cemetery (formerly known Winn cemetery) per researcher John R. Adney. His records are on microfiche #6010571 at the FHL and were used by Edwin Tappan Adney (and Jim Wheaton) for almost all of the information on this family.John R. Adney had typed William's death date as 12/15/1875, apparently a typographical error. On May 28, 1941 John and his father, John Alvin Adney and friend, Thomas Maguire visited the old Winn Cemetery at North Clayton, Wisconsin near Soldiers Grove.William Adney's grave could not be located as there had been no headstone erected; but the approximate location of the grave was found by his father (John Alvin Adney).
