Rich, your family is shown in Tappan Adney's research...please check my website at http://www.siterrific.com/Adneyhttp://www.siterrific.com/Adney and the genealogical links there. Tappan Adney shows William James Adney as being born 10 October 1917 in Scott's Bluff, Nebraska, but didn't carry the research any farther down. William James's father was James Francis Adney, b. 7 July 1864, and at the time Tappan did his research (early 20th century), James's address was Saginaw, Lane, County, Oregon. James Francis's father was Daniel Webster Adney (1 July 1838 - 15 Oct 1918), who was the son of William Adney, the founder of the Wisconsin branch, son of John Adney of Ohio, son of Thomas Adney of North Carolina and Virginia. Details of this are shown in my book mentioned on the website.
Adney Gap is a milepost on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, not West Virginia. There is no current trace of the Adney family there. If your great aunts had documentation concerning Adney Gap, it would be of great interest to the many descendants of Thomas Adney.
