Hello, Jim. All of a sudden, I have received two messages relating to a posting of mine about Daniel Adney, but I haven't had a chance to go back and see what I said in that message! Anyway, thanks very much for the information about Mary, who married John Butler.
Our paths almost crossed this summer: I was in Vinton and Gallipolis on July 31 and August 1 this past summer. Met a very nice lady at the Gallia County Historical Society...can't find her card at the moment. I also drove the loop around Vinton, and met some people who live on Adney Road. I think Vinton is very small now, compared to what it was 100 years ago. It even had its own newspaper, the Vinton Leader.
My particular interest in this is because I am preparing a biography of Edwin Tappan Adney, who did the original research on the Adney family. Tappan's father was Prof. W. H. G. Adney, son of Jonathan, son of John, son of Thomas. Prof. Adney was born in Vinton, and was a teacher at Ohio University in Athens, where Tappan was born in 1868.
By the way, Tappan Adney visited Vinton in 1904 and took a number of photographs of Raccoon Creek, the mill and the dam.
Thanks again for the information, Jim, and keep in touch...
