Hi Jacqueline,
Thanks for the reply. It's great to be able to connect Willington Shelton and Augustus Agar. I felt sure they must be connected given their names! Unfortunately I don't have any information on the Agar's that I can share. However, I've included some details about one of Willington's marriages which links into my own family.
My ancestor John Atcheler was married about 5 times lastly to Victoria Chancellor who herself was married 3 times!
1st. To John Atcheler
2nd. To George Bury
3rd. To Willington Augustus D Shelton
On searching for Victoria and Willington the following records have been found:
Births Jun 1849
===============
Shelton, Willington Augustus David, Carmarthen, 26, 6[28]7
NB: It says Carmarthen, whereas you have him being born in Co. Limerick. Given the unusual name it must be the same man!
Marriage Dec 1886
=================
BURY Victoria Marylebone 1a 1216
Shelton Willington Augustus D Marylebone 1a 1216
I have ordered the marriage certificate to check that it's my Victoria Bury.
Census 1881
===========
Wellington SHELTON HeadU M Age 31 GentlemanBirthplace Carmarthen, Wales
VictoriaBURYVisitor M F Age 38 –Birthplace Battersea, Surrey,
SarahCHAPMAN ServU F Age 35 Cook DomesticBirthplace Medmenham, Buckingham
EmilySTEVENS ServU F Age 22 Housemaid Domestic Birthplace Slough, Buckingham, England
Victoria seems to have changed her age - it should be about 42!
I find this quite fascinating - probably because it's my own family :) I'd now like to be able to find some descendents of Willington to see if I can find out any more about the family.
Regards,
Richard
