Hello Keith, Thank you for your response to my enquiry re Joseph Agar & Elizabeth Hawxwell. They had two sons named William, one as you say bapt. in 1792, and another in 1803. I have assumed that the former died in childhood and that I am descended from the latter. I think it likely that Joseph's parents were John Agar and Jane Sutton, who were married at Easingwold on 24/11/1757, and Joseph was bapt. on 27/3/1761 at Kilburn. John (& Jane?)seem to have gone on to have more children bapt. in Easingwold, namely: Richard, Thomas, William and Matthias. Richard appears to be living in Walmgate, York as a hosier in 1841, and William as a shop keeper in Peter Lane, York. I have yet to crosscheck them with the 1851 Census, which may prove these were the two sons bapt. in Easingwold. I would be very interested in the info. you have on the York Agars as Freemen, Aldermen etc, please. Look forward to hearing futher from you.
