I have a question regarding Jesse AGEE and Elizabeth Satterfield, married Warren Co., KY 19 Apr 1833. Many AGEE researchers have this Jesse as the son of Ephraim and Elizabeth Dunn AGEE, born in Franklin county, VA.[I descend from one of Elizabeth Dunn's brothers.] Many AGEE researchers also have this Jesse marrying Amanda Bunch in Osage Co., MO in 1859.
In the 1850 KY Allen Co. census there is a Jesse R AGEE 42, born VA and wife Elizabeth A with daughtersJA, EC, RK and JS and sons WM and PC.It appears that this same family is in Gasconade Co., MO in 1860 with daughters Elizabeth C, Ruth, Susan, Martha and Sarah, the latter two born in MO and also son Perry C.William Agee is married and living next door. But, sure enough, in 1860 Crawford twp, Osage Co., MO there is Jesse AGEE 53 b. VA and Amanda 29 b. VA; by 1870 this couple have three children Lydia, George and Julia.
So, either Jesse Agee had two families, one by Elizabeth Satterfield whom he left in Gasconade county, MO, about 1859 when he married Amanda Bunch.Or there were two Jesse Agees living in MO in 1860 who were born in VA about 1806.I suppose that Elizabeth might have stated thatJesse was head of household in 1860, rather than tell the enumerator he had left them, if indeed that was the case.
The Agee Register doesn't give any other likely candidates for Jesse other than the son of Ephraim and Elizabeth DUNN.Another poster, however, found a Jesse Agee in Christian Co., IL in the 1850 census, age 46, born VA, married to an Elizabeth from KY.This couple had no children with them in 1850.This could be the Jesse AGEE that married Amanda Bunch, who, according to the AGEE Register had no children by his first marriage to an Elizabeth.
I would love to hear from a descendant of either family, Jesse and Elizabeth Satterfield, or Jesse and Amanda Bunch, as to whether they had any family sources, other than the AGEE Register and what's been put out on the internet that would confirm or contradict that Jesse was the son of Ephraim and Elizabeth Dunn AGEE from Franklin county, VA.
I'd welcome contact from any DUNN or AGEE researchers working in this line as well. Thanks for taking the time to just read this.
