I haven't posted on here for a few years. I have since found that my Native American roots are from the Agee line and are from the Tennessee area, but not sure what town or county. I am related to Nancy Agee born circa 1825 in TN. She was living in Alabama, Lawrence Co. according to the 1850 US census, age 25, so she must have been born circa 1825. The head of the household in 1850 was Mary Robertson,70 but no one seems to know who she was. The census says she was born in Virginia. Nancy had William,7, Sarah,5, Mary,1. On the 1860 census, William, 15,(should have been 17),Sarah Scoggin,15, Mary, 11, John, 8,Jasper, 5, and Joe, 7-1/2 months. On the 1870 census: Nancy, 43, Jasper 13, and James 11. (Perhaps "Joe" was James?).
Since I last posted in 2008, I have learned from 1st cousin sisters, that we are Native American from our Agee line, but there is a lot of controversy over what tribe we belong to. My Mother said she "thought" we were Cherokee; that she believed her grandmother was 3/4 Cherokee. But, since she died in 1997, no one else in the family can ascertain that and my eldest sister believes we are Choctaw. I do not know what part of TN my Agee folks came from, but now I'm confused, because I understand that there are Choctaw and Cherokee Agees from Tennessee and Agees are on on both the Choctaw Rolls and the Dawes Rolls.
I'm trying to ascertain if you are related to the Choctaw Agees from Tennessee or Zora Agee of Cherokee blood. Thank you for any help you might be able to render.
