I can certainly understand the confusion.I have actually often wondered about Judith and her connection to the Chastain's of Manakin, and doubted her as the mother of Mathieu, but I haven't been able to research any of it out. Here's what I have on her (again, I have not yet checked any of this out although I have intentions of doing so):
Judith Chastain, b. 1638/1654 in North Nantes, La Rochelle, France. Her parents: Jean Francois CHASTAIN and Francoise Jane RE'NAULT of Nantes (or Berry) France. I have Judith's brother as the Dr. Pierre CHASTAIN that came to Manakin. But the dates for this family are all messy and nothing has really made sense with her as Mathieu's mother.
So, I appreciate the information you sent. You also mentioned that Mathieu's mother came to Manakin also (if I understood you correct)? If this is right, it is definitely news to me.I was under the impression that he came alone.
Anyhow, I live just about 10 minutes from the Family History Library in Salt Lake and have every intention of making this family a summer project...when I can get babysitters!I read a bit of French, so I don't think it should be too difficult...if records exist.
If you have any other information on this family, I would most definitely appreciate hearing it, especially the stories and things that don't often find their way into charts and group sheet...even heresay can often help.Any clarifications would be great!
