I Should have been more specific on the Agnews I speak of.I Speak of the Agnews of Lochnaw, The Heridity Sheriffs of Galloway beginning with Andrew Agnew, of Lochnaw who died in 1455.
Andrew Agnew, of Lochnaw married the Grand daughter of Robert III Stewart, King of Scotland, Mary Kennedy.Robert III was the Great Grandson of Robert I Bruce.Mary was the daughter of Lady Mary Stewart and Sir James Kennedy, of Dunure, Younger.
Andrew was the 1st Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway in 1451. In 1455 he supported King James II in the Douglas rebellion.
Andrew was the first Agnew that I have on Record that was part of this line. There was several Marriages of these descendants of Charles Martel and Charlemange to each other in the Agnew of Lochnaw Family.
When Quentin Agnew, of Lochnaw, 3rd Hereditary Sheriff andMariota Vaux Married we had a descendant of Robert I Bruce and all these others I mention getting Married to Mariota Vaux, who was a descendant by both of her Parents. Her Mother descended from Robert II and her Father descended from Robert II and Robert III.Quentin Agnew had descended from Robert II as well as Robert III.
Things of this type happened all along history from Charles Martel with many marriages of this type taking place.
I did not mention before that we also descend from Llywelyn "The Great" ap Iorwerth, Prince of North Wales. It was his Grand Daughter, Isabella, Lady of Mar that Married Robert I Bruce and was the Mother of Margorie Bruce, Princess of Scotland, the Mother of Robert II Stewart.
We also descend from William Marshall, 4th Earl of Pembroke, the great Marshall of England who was the most important man in the Magna Charta.
Of all the barons assembled at Runnemede, William Marshall was the most distinguished. He was not one of those opposed to King John; he was an old man and had served as counselor to three Plantagenet Kings, His part was that of intermediary. While not a surety he deserves our veneration more than any of the twenty-five.It was he who made possible the realization of Magna Charta.
William's daughter married Sir Gilbert de Clare, A Baron of the Magna Charta.Magna Charta Surety B: c1180 D: 25 Oct 1230 M: 9 Oct 1217 Isabel Marshall, B: ??? D: 17 Jan 1239 or 1240.
The daughter of Sir Gilbert de Clare and Lady Isabella Marshall, Isabella de Clare, married Robert de Brus, Lord of Annandale, the Grandfather of Robert I Bruce, King of Scotland and was Robert I's Grandmother.
Rollo Ragnvaldsson, King of Normandy is another in the line of our ancestors who is very notable. In 885, he was one of the lesser leaders of the Viking fleet which besieged Paris under Sigfred. In 886, when Sigfred retreated in return for tribute, Rollo stayed behind.
Unlike most Vikings whose intentions were to plunder Frankish lands, Rollo's true intentions were to look for lands to settle. Upon arrival in France, and after many battles with the Vikings, the French King Charles the Simple understood that he could no longer hold back their advances, and decided as a tempory measure to give Rollo land around Rouen under the condition that he would convert to Christianity and defend the Seine River from other raiding Vikings.
He is a direct ancestor of William the Conqueror. Through William, he is a direct ancestor of the present-day British royal family, including Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He is also a direct Ancestor of Agnews of Lochnaw and those who came to America.
The ancestors of Agnews are like a long Story Book in the History of the World.I can not begin to touch on the stories that are to be learned, here in this format. Most are wonderful and some are sad.
Thank you, Jimmie Robbins An Agnew of Lochnaw descendant Hattiesburg, MS
