That could certainly explain it. But I don't know for sure. I just sent away for the Marriage certificate of John Patterson Agnew and his wife Roberta hoping that might give me a clue at least to where he was born. I know my Uncle has a book from the family that talks about Captain James Agnew and others and I have a picture of the family homestead in Pennsylvania that was taken by my grandfather or his mother I think. The picture has writing on the back that clearly states the old family homestead. So it is quite possible.
If I could somehow find out what county he was born in in Penn. then I would be able to perhaps get a birth certificate of some kind. But since I don't know that yet I am stuck there. I was told by my grandmother that there was a family bible but we couldn't find it among any of my grandfather's possessions when he passed away. I had to search through 5 suitcases (big ones) of pictures to find out as much as I have found out. Got lots on my grandfather's mother but very little on his father. Apparently my grandfather didn't really like his father because they found out he had been hiding two previous marriages. My grandfather found out he had a half brother William Agnew (older than him) but I don't know how much or who his mother was etc. They spoke briefly a few times and I know he was born in PA and has a son David out in CA. But he passed away before my grandfather so I don't know any more than that. Oh well. I will keep searching. Thanks for all your help. If you find anything else let me know.
