Isn't it time we stop "dissing" this guy for past mistakes? Re: his family history, his name was Anagnostopoulos, but his father shortened it to Agnew when he immigrated to the States. Ted (commonly known as Spiro) was proud of his Greek heritage, but he in no way looked down upon Anglicans. To the contrary, he and his family converted from Greek Orthodox to Episcopal, the Anglican Church. I AM a relative of Ted (Spiro) Agnew, and I'm proud of it. So he's not a "real" Agnew. How many immigrants changed (or were forced to change) their names upon moving to the US? Some of my German ancestors certainly did. Time to move on.
