I have an ancestor, ELIZABETH AGNEW, born circa 1805 in Ireland, who was the daughter of GEORGE AGNEW and MARTHA (nee AGNEW).ELIZABETH married WILLIAM JAMIESON and their sons HENRY and ROBERT were born in Ireland circa 1826 and 1829.
BY 1831, the family had moved to Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland, where children JOHN, GEORGE, WILLIAM, GEORGE, ELIZABETH and JANE were born.Their father WILLIAM was a Cotton Hand Loom Weaver and their mother ELIZABETH was a Yarn Winder.
By 1851, a niece, AGNES AGNEW, born in Ireland around 1835 was living with the family in Maybole.ELIZABETH and WILLIAM's son JOHN was my great-great grandfather.
I have no idea where in Ireland the family came from, although Antrim and Down have the highest concentration of AGNEW and JAMIESON surnames.
I don't know if there is any connection between this family and your ancestors, but I will look out for your MARTHA AGNEW and her father JOHN when I am researching in future.
