I'm sorry for the long delay in responding. The part of the family that was in Santa Elena is no longer there. Some moved back to Quito and others to Guayaquil. I went to visit this past February and sought out family in the Vilcabamba area (south Ecuador). A cousin of my father had recently died. I visited another cousin of my father in Loja. However, she is female and will not carry the name. It was a pleasure, though, to meet her and see firsthand how beautiful that city is. I understand that the Aguilera's in the area originally had migrated to northern Peru, that is why some had move to the Province of El Oro and around that southern part of the country. My father's cousin, who had passed away, was the one who knew about the family in Peru. I have cousins, with the same surname in Portovelo, Zaruma, Guyaquil, and even New York (Queens).
