Today is November 1st, the Feast of All Saints, as it was calledwhen the
Christian church co-opted the Celtic festival of Samhain. On ourwebsite
we commemorate many Aherns who would not be considered saints, butall are
worth remembering. In pursuit of that goal we have now brought theAhern
obituary collection past the 3,800 mark. The earliest new obituaryis for
Michael Ahern, husband of Teresa, in Liscard, Lancashire, England,
5 May 1897. The most recent is for John J. "Jack" O'Hearn of Maple Grove,
Wisconsin, 6 October 2009. The bulk of the recent additions are from the
Irish Examiner and the Cork Evening Echo of the past two years.
Oneinteresting Ahearn I've been researching is Roy Ahearn, who started
flyingairplanes at the age of 17 and before he was 25 held the world
record forcarrying passengers aloft in his bi-winged aeroplane. See
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~aherns/ahroy.htmhttp://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~aherns/ahroy.htm I've put together
on his career in barnstorming days of aviation.
