Funeral services for Barbara Linda Gelles, 80, of Knoxville, Iowa who died Saturday, March 23, at her home, were held Tuesday, March 26, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia. Revs. Mark Spring and Scott Lemaster officiated at the services. Music was provided by Julie Bettis, organist and Joe Flahive, vocalist. Barbara was born on November 13, 1921 to Edward and Bertha (Hughes) Ahn. She married Mike Gelles on October 12, 1937.
Barbara was a homemaker until her children graduated from high school. She then worked in Albia at the Maloney door factory. She worked in the dietary department of the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville until she retired.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, shopping and going to flea markets. She also liked wildlife and feeding birds and squirrels.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Audrey Pettyjohn; one brother, Emory Ahn; two grandsons; and one great-grandson in infancy.
She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Gelles of Knoxville; two sons, Edward Gelles of Knoxville and John Gelles of El Cajon, Calif.; two sisters, Olive Beakler of Russell and Ruby Riseley of Knoxville; five grandsons; three step-granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
Arrangements were made by Gilbert - Nordstrom Funeral Home in Lovilia.
