In Oct,1870 Ferry twp., Oceana County, Michigan Census I found STILLMAN AIKEN 35 born Ohio, farmer...his wife MARGRET 36 born in Ohio, their 3 children...JOHN C. 14 Ohio, IDA J. 12 Ohio and ELLA M. AIKEN 5 born in Indiana who is my focus of attention....... My Grt. Granfather ERASTUS SMITH and his wife HELEN MARIE SMITH living near Ferry township were neighbors to The Aiken family. Two months after the Oct.1870 Census was taken, Smallpox was sickening the neighborhood including the Aiken family. The terrible sickness killed off Stillman and his wife Margret in December of 1870 within a few days of each other. This left the children orphaned.I don't know what happened to John C. 14 and Ida J. 12 but their baby sister Ella M. 5 was adopted by my Grt. Grandparents Erastus and Helen Smith and raised as a sibling of their many other children.....Years later Ella married, had children and it was reported that Ella was shot and killed by her son-in-law...now i would really like to find anyone who could add any information to this story and family.Who did she marry, who were her children, where did she live, who was this son-in-law that took her life. There are so many blank spots in my research for Ella. thanks for any help you may give.
